Cowgirl Up Adventures is owned and operated by Katy Elliot, on a small ranch near Valemount, BC.
From a very young age Katy was obsessed with horses. She would borrow every book she could from the library about horses, and she would watch every horse movie over and over. She also knew every name/age/breed of horse along the way to her grandparents house. Her father decided it was time to sign her up for riding lessons after she taught her dog to jump. He thought that once she knew how much work it was to ride and take care of a horse, that she would lose interest. However, it was quite the opposite… she was hooked! 1 lesson a week turned in to 3 lessons a week. Next was leasing a horse and showing, and eventually dad had to buy a horse... She spent every hour she could at the barn!
Fast forward to today.. She still loves horses and spends as much time with them as possible! Since the Arabian show horse days of her youth, she have gone on to become a certified instructor with the Certified Horsemanship Association. She has been teaching lessons for 9 years and guiding trail rides and training horses for 15 years. In 2016 she started a guiding business of her own - Cowgirl Up Adventures, offering trail rides, horsemanship lessons, retreats, and overnight pack trips up the Moose River in Mount Robson Provincial Park.
We love mountains and adventures, and spend much of our time in the backcountry on horseback. Katy loves sharing her passion for mountains, horses, and adventures with others. A good friend of mine told me: Life is anything but boring around here, always an adventure!
